Windows XP Fire 2011 5.0 is a bootleg Windows XP SP3 edition, which was created by Bassem Galal. It released on July 5, 2011, and was originally added to the archive on December 12, 2021. Because this version was faulty (it had been tampered with, the boot sector was replaced and some files were slightly altered), it was replaced with a proper one on April 28, 2023.

Description

The bootleg is a modified Windows XP SP3 ISO. It is styled after Windows 7, comes with quite a few programs, plenty of themes and wallpapers, and a few other things. It comes with a WIHU preloaded with programs. It comes with registry tweaks.

A batch script called Bassem.bat handles installation of the new customizations and features this bootleg offers, and also runs the WIHU.

One of the programs (BM Radio) was made by the bootleg author.

It comes with its own autorun. Through it, you can 'install the OS' (it just pops up a message telling you you need to restart the computer to actually install it), view a README file which includes details about this mod, along with a list of what nLite modifications have been done on the distribution, and also a list of the new features this mod has.

It is unattended and preactivated. The ISO was made using nLite, and the boot selector used was EasyBoot. The autorun was made with AutoPlay Media Studio 8.0.

Changes from Windows XP SP3

Minor changes

  • The text-mode setup OS text at the top-left is changed to "Windows XP FIRE SP3". Other than that, it's mainly "Windows XP FIRE". Some subtle changes to the setup strings were also done, such as for instance:
    • "Setup is formatting..." is now "Partition Formatting".
    • "This might take several minutes to complete" now reads "This might take 5 minutes to complete".
  • "Press any key to boot from CD" is now "Windows XP FIRE >>Press Enter".
  • OEM branding is included, along with Support Information
  • The Run dialog now has a banner. The Run title now has Windows XP FIRE at the end.
  • New Winver banner and bar

Changes in pre-desktop procedures

  • New setup graphics. The steps strings have been changed. There is now a new setup banner at the top left. The blinking bar at the bottom right has now been colored red and yellow.

  • The OOBE is skipped
  • New login graphics

Look and feel

  • New default theme and wallpaper
  • 12 new themes included
  • 50 new wallpapers included. All of them have the XP Fire logo stamped on them.
  • New default sound set
  • New default cursor sets, thanks to the All in One Cursors Addon Pack
  • 319 new fonts included
  • New avatar set. The default avatars have been updated, along with some new avatars.

Notes

WIHU quirks

  • Firefox Portable will attempt to extract itself to "D:\Firefox Portable" (you can't change where it's extracting to). This will not work if there is a CD drive with that drive letter.
  • Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger will not work because the WIHU config expects them to be in the system32 folder when it should actually be in C:\Windows\BASSEM.
