Windows XP Purple Edition SP3 2012 is a bootleg Windows XP SP3 edition, which was created by M. Faaiz. It released on October 6, 2012, and was added to the archive on February 7, 2023.

Description

The bootleg is a modified Windows XP SP3 ISO. Like you'd expect, the whole OS is purple themed. All kinds of new programs (especially in the WPI) and updates have been added. There are a handful of themes and wallpapers. There are a few registry tweaks here and there.

Besides that, a lot of the usual dialog boxes (System Properties, Run, About Windows) have been given new designs, along with some new ones like the Format and Open With dialogs.

It comes with a new autorun. Through it, you can view a page explaining how to install the bootleg, play the autorun song, view slides of the mod which is done by a slideshow plugin, access the "About Me" page, visit the author's Facebook page and their website.

It is unattended and preactivated. The ISO was made using nLite 1.4.9.1, and the autorun was made with Autoplay Menu Designer 4.1.

Changes from Windows XP SP3

Minor changes

  • The text-mode setup OS text is changed to "Windows Xp Purple Edition 2012". It is also centered.
  • The text-mode setup copying text is just "Please wait..."
  • New System Properties graphics. There is a banner to the left
  • New OEM branding, along with Support Information
  • The My Documents (and Recent Documents), My Computer and My Network Places all have "My" replaced with "Purple XP". Internet Explorer however, just has Purple XP prepended to its name.
  • The Start button text is now "Purple Xp".
  • The desktop context menu is now styled after Windows 7's.

Major changes

  • The Run dialog now has a banner and extra text. The buttons now have new names. There is now a Windows logo and a calendar dropdown on the bottom left.
  • New Winver banner and bar. The Windows version text has been changed to just "Microsoft Windows" and "Version 6.1". The copyright text now has the author's site in place of "Microsoft".
  • The Format and Open With dialogs have been given new designs. The Format dialog now has a banner at the top. The Open With dialog is now significantly larger, including a picture at the right and an email address below it. The buttons have also been re-arranged.
  • The Display Properties dialog now have banners for all of their pages. All the pages names now have "Purple Xp" prepended to them.

Changes in pre-desktop procedures

  • New setup graphics. The setup step strings have been modified. The billboard has been removed entirely.

  • The OOBE video and OOBE are skipped
  • New login graphics, featuring Accessibility and Shutdown buttons from Windows 7. The LogonUI is a modified version of Windows XC 2011's.
