Windows XP Unlimited is a bootleg Windows XP SP2 edition, which was created by mikoinlove. It released in October of 2005, and was added to the archive on January 3, 2023. It was mikoinlove's second bootleg, after Windows XP Spirit which is currently not in the collection. The bootleg was originally available through a SendSpace link, and additionally the Pirate Bay.

There was an Arabic version of this bootleg which got added on October 28, 2023.

There was also a Flash tour for the bootleg made by the author (on February 1, 2006) which was downloadable here. It is bundled on the CD.

There was also Upgrade 1.0 (which was a ZIP file of Adobe Flash Player 8 (intended to be an update to XP Unlimited's Flash 7) and a PDF reader) which released on February 2, 2006, then Upgrade 2.0 on June 28, 2006 (this time it was in an EXE file).

Description

The bootleg is a modified Windows XP SP2 ISO. It comes with a new theme and wallpaper and a pack of 100 fonts and many screensavers, among other things. It comes with many programs and games added. It comes with registry tweaks.

The autorun has its strings modified. There are no other notable changes.

It is preactivated.

Changes from Windows XP SP2

Minor changes

  • The Explorer toolbar now has labels. There is now a toolbar background also which is part of the default theme
  • The shutdown and logoff dialog now have a transparent background and big icons.
  • The theme applying dialog has a broken transparent wallpaper.

Changes in pre-desktop procedures

  • New setup graphics. The setup billboard text has been updated
  • New boot graphics
  • New pre-OOBE graphics
  • The OOBE video is skipped
  • New login graphics

Look and feel

  • New default theme, and wallpaper. The default theme which used to be Luna has now been modified to have a centered title bar and a new design. It has also had some new color schemes added as well. Windows Classic however, has been recolored to something a lot more atrocious.
  • All of the default wallpapers have been replaced
  • 12 new screensavers added
  • New icon set
  • New sound scheme. The Startup and Shutdown sounds are replaced, as well as the Error, Exclamation and Critical Stop sound, and the Start sound
  • New avatar set. 10 of the default avatars are replaced
  • 100 new fonts added
  • There have been 21 new Favorite links included, mostly going to Arabic sites.
  • There have been new shortcuts to the Administrative Tools added. They all have comments on them.

Notes

Remarks

  • When you're reviewing this bootleg, keep in mind that the ISO does not take advantage of the Joliet file system, and therefore most hypervisors will likely end up not recognizing the ISO. You will have to edit the ISO yourself in order for them to recognize it properly.

Bootleg quirks

  • Notepad2 has been edited by the author. This is evident by looking in the version information. Comments now says "Notepad2 is For XP Unlimited" and More Information is "More information and updates: Mikoinlove@hotmail.com".
  • The Command Prompt colors are now cyan on dark blue.
  • QuickTime doesn't work.
  • The translator by default doesn't work correctly, due to the incorrectly set non-Unicode language.
  • The default theme's title text is centered.
  • LogonUI's UIFILE has a lot of padding (410 newlines) at the beginning.
  • The OS has drivers for the ALS4000 and some TV tuner cards according to the documentation.
  • The sample Winamp song has been replaced with "Hawthorne Heights - Ohio is for Lovers" (yeah...)

CD contents and other info

  • The CD label is set to "XP_UNLIMITED".
  • There is a internet shortcut leading to the XP Unlimited website (http://users.cjb.net/xp-unlimited). The modified date states January 1, 2006 @ 0:00.
  • The AUTORUN.INF, README and SETUPXP.HTM and the WIN51 marker files have been marked hidden.
  • All files on the CD are dated January 1, 2006 @ 0:00.
