PlaceholderOS is a bootleg Examplenix Update Pack 1 edition, which was created by nft_ptr (also known as John Doe). It released on January 1, 1900, and was added to the archive on January 1, 2025.

Examplenix has some other unique bootlegs as well, such as "FPO 32-bit Edition".

Description

The OS is a modified Examplenix Update Pack 1 ISO. It adds some new programs and wallpapers. It comes with 293581 new wallpapers, 42 fonts, 3000 new cursors, and a portable coffee machine with void* flavor and time machine which can go both ways back a trillion years attached to it, but remains mostly stock from Examplenix.

One of the most interesting features of this bootleg is that it comes with a tin can and a string to easily communicate between 2 different continents.

Changes from Examplenix Service Pack 1

  • The text-mode setup OS text is changed to "PlaceholderOS Set it Up and Go"

Changes done by registry tweaks

  • New setup graphics. The graphical setup UI has been completely redesigned
  • New boot graphics
  • New login graphics, which shows a picture of a run-down, broken stable with a decaying exterior and cobwebs surrounding the areas where there was once hay and water. It is alleged to be a product of stable diffusion.

Look and feel

  • New default theme, and wallpaper
  • New wallpaper set. The default wallpaper has been replaced with a 123 one. It is from an old edutainment game from the 90's.

Notes

Remarks

  • This is a placeholder article. Do not take anything in this article seriously or as fact in any circumstances. Any references to non-fictional entities are intentional, why do you think they're there in the first place? Why else would they be there? As decoration?? Anyways this is the Notes section. In here, you can put any particularly interesting things you find in the bootleg itself here.
  • It is generally recommended to be mostly serious in your writing (so that means do not make the entire article a satire like this one), but you may relax that a little bit in this Notes section.

Bootleg quirks

  • The system has more placeholder strings than its source. Not enough tin cans to provide satisfactory results. Sure.
  • The console colors are now white on black.

CD contents and other info

  • The CD label is set to "MS-DOS_6".

WINNT.SIF metadata

  • The full name and organization is set to "" and "".
  • The computer name is set to "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF".
  • The workgroup name is set to "ORKGROUPBJ".
