MS-DOS 7.1 (not to be confused with the MS-DOS 7.1 built into older versions of Windows) is a bootleg of MS-DOS, which was created by China DOS Union. It released in 2004, and was added to the archive on November 28, 2022. It is one of the most famous MS-DOS bootlegs.

Description

MS-DOS 7.1 is a version of MS-DOS made by Microsoft in 1997. This version of DOS was never officially released as a standalone version, and was instead used in Windows 95 OSR 2 and Windows 98. As such, this bootleg attempts to make MS-DOS 7.1 easier to install and utilize as a standalone OS without having to use Windows 9x.

The OS itself is very flexible and has three installation types: full, which includes several utilities, DOS commands only, which only includes a basic install of DOS, and minimal, which only contains the absolute essentials. You can also optionally install add-ons which will add several common DOS tools, as well as enable a boot screen which enables a Windows 9x-esque boot screen.

Other than that, most of the features are stock DOS.
