This article is about a modification of Windows 2000. Not to be confused with the actual Windows beta.

Windows Neptune is a bootleg Windows 2000 SP4 edition, which was created by Knabe91. It released in March 2014, and was added to the archive on March 2, 2023.

Description

The bootleg is a modified Windows 2000 SP4 ISO which themes the OS after the origin OS's beta, Windows Neptune, along with some portions of Windows ME, and does it rather well.

Changes from Windows 2000 SP4

  • The text-mode setup OS text is changed
  • New setup background
  • New login banner
  • Many programs and features from Neptune and ME added, such as the Activity Centers (although in a partially working state as the Game Center crashes), Windows ME's Movie Maker (primitive compared to XP's Movie Maker which had effects and a better looking UI) and Neptune's login screen to boot
  • Some of the Control Panel applets have been replaced with Neptune's ones, such as the User Accounts applet (named Windows Identities) which lets you enable the new login screen
  • Whistler 2223's uxtheme has been added to the OS, allowing basic themes to work

Notes

  • There is a shortcut to the Game Center in the Start menu's Programs directory.
