Windows Mega 1.0 is a bootleg Windows XP SP3 edition, which was created by Fouad Laz (yes, the Fouad Laz). It released on March 10, 2014, and was added to the archive on April 6, 2024.
Description
The bootleg is a modified Windows XP SP3 ISO. It comes with AHCI storage drivers.
On the first boot of the OS, it will initially show a stock Windows XP installation, until you will get a screen where you will have the choice to pick 3 looks to use. There is Crystal Mega, Windows Mega and Mac Mega. After that, you will get the choice to install and pick the additional programs that come with this bootleg you want to use.
The Windows Mega look is heavily reliant on the Neon Skin Pack 2.0, which is responsible for the new theme and most of the visual enhancements this bootleg comes with. It has some programs included (excluding additional programs). The default wallpaper is picked at random, which goes for all of the other looks.
The Crystal Mega look comes with cracked WindowBlinds 6.1 build 55, which is borrowed straight from Windows AnGeL Live 2.0, and the Slan Skin Pack 1.0. WindowBlinds' default Diamond theme has been specially modified by the AnGeL Live author.
The Mac Mega look utilizes the Mountain Lion Skin Pack, with an obscene amount of customization utilities integrated. At least a quarter of them do not function, and one that is supposed to run on startup does not work due to a programming error. It is the only look that can very well be considered the true spiritual successor to Windows Mac OS XP.
It comes with its own boot selector. Through it, you can access the bootleg and Hiren's BootCD Mini 2010 (only has partition utilities).
It comes with its own autorun. It has a relatively original design - it is styled after a store receipt. Typical autorun links are displayed as "items". They seem to be free items and do not have any tax costs. There is a shutdown button on the bottom left, and if you click it, the autorun disappears. The receipt # is 56734M. One can only wonder what kind of chemicals this one is laced with. Keep in mind, that the date is 3 months after this bootleg came out.
It is unattended and preactivated. The bootleg was made using nLite 1.4.9.1 and Windows Unattended CD Creator 0.9.8, the autorun used was AutoPlay Media Studio, and the boot selector used was EasyBoot 5.1.0.566. The ISO was touched up with UltraISO 7.6E.

Notes
Remarks
- The author of this article, who is also the one behind Windows Mac OS XP, has decided to abstain from the humorous and overly formal article format for the time being. We regret to be pleased to tell you we are sorry for the inconvenience.
- The Mac Mega screenshots and the actual Mac Mega look are completely different. The taskbar is not on the top in the actual.
Bootleg quirks
- Even though there are new OOBE graphics, the OOBE is skipped, so they will never show up. To access the unused OOBE graphics, you will have to change the UnattendSwitch value in WINNT.SIF from "Yes" to "No". That controls if the OOBE shows or not.
- There is a binary for the virtual Vn-570MS calculator in All Users' Accessories.
- A quarter of the customization utilities in Mac Mega's skin pack don't work.
- Finderbar, a program that is intended to start on startup in Mac Mega, doesn't work due to faulty coding.
- The passwords for Windows Mega 1.0's self-extractors are
adobe123
. - The default username is "mega".
CD contents and other info
- The CD label is set to "Windows Mega 1.0".
- The CD comes with its own custom icon.
WINNT.SIF metadata
- The full name and organization is set to "mega pc" and "fouad laz".
- The computer name is set to "MEGA".
- The workgroup name is set to "mega group".
