Windows Crystal XP V1 is a bootleg Windows XP SP2 edition, which was created by Pepsi Labeb. It released on July 7, 2006, and was added to the archive on December 22, 2022.
Description
The bootleg is a modified Windows XP SP2 ISO. It applies a new look based on the CrystalXP.net skin pack which was starting to gain traction around the time of this bootleg's release. It adds many new programs, themes and wallpapers, new icons and cursors, updates, and more. It comes with a final setup "software installation" segment, and its own autorun. It comes with registry tweaks, which get applied in the aforementioned segment.
Through the autorun, you can install a beta version of Internet Explorer 7 (Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview, mislabeled as Beta 3), run a very early scene crack for Windows XP from 2002 (although very shoddily made, it literally just sets a value in WPAEvents\OOBETimer), or get more information about Crystal XP (which simply just launches an RTF document packaged with a cracked version of WebExe. There is an RTF document in the Start menu programs which has some differences, see Notes section). You can even rename your Start button (using a program called StartBtn Renamer 2.02) from this menu!
It is unattended and preactivated. The ISO was made using nLite and Windows Unattended CD Creator 0.9.8, and the autorun was made with AutoPlay Media Studio.

Notes
Bootleg quirks
- There are two versions of the same RTF document, one in the Start menu programs and the other packaged as a "WebExe" executable in the Autorun's Docs folder.
- The differences between these two versions are:
- The "Basmala" and other religious texts are written in different colors from the README (we will refer to the "Start menu programs .RTF" as that from now on, for sake of brevity. All of the "sections" and markings are also written in different colors),
- The features and software lists have been made slightly bigger,
- A collage of images demonstrating the OS has been added that wasn't there in the original README. They look to have been saved in GIF format and also have minor differences from the final OS (obviously, these are screenshots from when it was still in development, but we'll get to that in a bit, and even then it'll be in its own section anyways),
- And finally, the "Bootable" text has been made bigger and the author's email address at the end has been centered, and has lost its color.
- As mentioned from before with the "WebExe" version of the README and its collage of screenshots from development having minor differences, here they are:
- In the first screenshot, the Autorun is shown. The project name is still called "My Project" and looks to have its project folder still open, as seen in the tasklist. The email address has not been added to the background yet, and the button text isn't bold yet. Meanwhile, we can see FrontPage open. Woohoo, FrontPage!!!
- The setup screenshot shows the Setup countdown and the progress bar text in German writing. The final release has it in English.
- The desktop screenshot shows 2 folders, "Copy of" and "xp". Not much of note here. Oh right, we can see Nero in the quick launch toolbar. Probably for burning the ISO or something.
- In the first start menu screenshot, we can see "Adobe Photoshop CS" in the recently used programs list. Maybe it could've been in the final version, but that's a long shot.
- The theme screenshot, where "Aero Style Beta 2" is shown, has the Segoe UI font applied. The final theme does not use it. The OS does not come with Segoe UI either, I checked.
- The theme screenshot where "XtremeXP" is shown, has the icons aligned to the right. The folders from before are no longer present.
- And finally, the Winamp screenshots shows a Winamp version of 5.21. This was before it was updated to 5.24 in the final release.
- Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4's installation has leftover extension install logs for the following: Adblock Plus 0.7.0.1, CuteMenus - Crystal 0.9.9.73, Google Preview 1.3.1, Mr Tech Local Install 5.0.2 and TinyURL Creator 1.0.2.
- The VS7 theme is actually supposed to have its own folder with its visual style in it, but it's in the root directory (in this case,
Resources\Themes
) instead. Fascinatingly enough, Windows is aware of it, and automatically fixes the problem. - A serial for AVG Antivirus is included as a text file on the desktop. It cannot be applied, because it has long since expired.
- IDM is supposed to have a crack registered to "MerCuRy", but it gets overwritten with "MiKiCuN MiKiCuN" instead.
- Internet Explorer starts in full-screen mode by default.
- The Internet Explorer title is set to "pepsi_labeb Internet Explorer".
CD contents and other info
- A serial number for the OS is included as a text file on the CD root. Interestingly enough, the serial listed is not the same as the one set in the mod's
WINNT.SIF
file.
WINNT.SIF metadata
- The full name and organization is set to "crystal" and "xp" respectively.
- The computer name is set to "PEPSI".
- The Internet Explorer default homepage is set to "islamonline.com".
