Windos 7 is a bootleg Windows XP SP3 edition, which was created by CHOCOLATEMAN (yeah, hard to believe, I know), and one of his real life friends which went by the persona "Inspector Gadget" on CollabVM.
It released on August 19, 2016, after they decided one day to make their own Windows XP bootleg to make fun of them, after seeing Gold Windows XP 2016 by Computer Worm Corporation, that just became popular at the time they made this mod. They even made up a fake story to go along with the bootleg - they claimed they supposedly found the bootleg in a thrift store, and that it came out on September 21, 2012 (which it did not, they had merely edited the file dates on the CD to hide the true date).
It was added to the archive on November 30, 2022.
Description
The bootleg is a modified Windows XP SP3 ISO. The OS tries, rather pathetically, to mimic Windows 7 but with an XP style.
The ISO was made using nLite.
Changes from Windows XP SP3
- The Bliss wallpaper has been replaced with the Windows 7 wallpaper, albeit without the Windows logo.
- The OOBE music has been replaced with a techno song from the Newgrounds Audio Portal (Eon - Universe City).
- The "take a tour" text had "Windows XP" replaced with "Windos 7"
- The notepad icon has been changed to a low resolution Windows 7 notepad icon
- Some of the drivers have also been modified, which brings up warnings during the setup
Notes
- The misspelled name, "Windos 7", was originally an actual error but the creators kept it in because they found it too funny to correct it.
- The OOBE music as shown in the Extracted resources section was originally in WMA format, but was converted to OGG in order for MediaWiki to accept it as a valid file.
- The CD label is set to "WIN_7".
