Windows Vista Extreme Edition R2 is a bootleg Windows Vista SP1 edition, which was created by Amit Aghara of Project-OS. It released on December 1, 2008 (but was finished November 30th, install.wim was finalized on November 27th), and was added to the archive on April 15, 2023.

Description

The bootleg is a modified Windows Vista SP1 ISO, which comes with DriverPacks from November 30, 2008 integrated. It comes with many programs and themes. It comes with gadgets, some DreamScene wallpapers and updates added. It comes with registry tweaks.

It is similar in the quantity of software and themes added to the bootleg to Windows Vista Kagome Titanium SP2 Edition (although this bootleg is based on Service Pack 1, not SP2), and also in size, although it's slightly smaller.

On the first boot of the OS, you will be asked if you want to visit the InstallAware website. That may sound out of place at first, but that's because one of the software installers that was put in was made with an unregistered version of InstallAware. Then two message boxes will show up asking you if you want to disable Superfetch (for 1GB or lower RAM) and enable DreamScene respectively. After that another message box will show up, which announces that the installation is complete. From here, you're told to either activate the OS legitimately or use one of the activators in the Vista Activators folder. It also warns you about the KB940510 update which breaks cracked installs.

One of the new major features added in this mod is a special selector dialog that shows up in the PE. From it, you can launch some system programs like the Command Prompt and Task Manager, and even Process Explorer v11.21 and Process Monitor v2.02. You can also start network services and launch the Windows Recovery Wizard from there.

It comes with its own autorun. Through it, you can access Release Notes (in HTML format), which shows a pretty extensive list of changes for this bootleg, a "64bit Extreme Edition® R2" link which goes to the author's official Extreme Edition site (which would presumably explain the 64-bit release and how it would be paid), a "Donate" link which takes you to the author's PayPal, and finally, a "OS Support" link which takes you to Project-OS, the group the author is a part of.

The autorun was made with AutoPlay Media Studio 7.0.

Bootleg quirks

In the desktop, there are many internet shortcuts included, and a readme file.
The "Windows Vista" theme is repeated 7 times in the theme selector, some being stock or duplicates of existing themes.
The "Mac OS X 10.5" theme is broken and applies the fallback theme.

CD contents and other info

Apparently, there is a text file on the CD root called "amit.txt" is critical to the setup and will not work if it is removed.
There is a folder on the CD root that is full of at least 50+ Windows Vista activators. It is extracted to the desktop during Setup.
The CD label is set to "VistaEER2".
The CD has a new icon.
